So, What Have You Been Up To?

Wonderfuls, it has been a hot minute to be sure.

Life has been Lifeing really hard and fast and roller-coasterey like a booger, but that's to be expected of life sometimes; otherwise there's no growth. No forward movement in this soul experiment we call reality.

It's been a lot.

For most of us, I think.

2025-2026 has been difficult in ways we weren’t expecting. The losses. The inevitable introspection following those losses.

I mean... Dolly?!? 😭

And for me, anyway, life is asking how I want to move forward. With all this newfound loss, growth, understanding, change, and building a future from here now that I've found myself without any prior planning to, for, by, or about a future for most of my life.

Because, you know what happens when you're only "present in the now" like they tout now on the influencer circuit?

IRL walking that out: being present in the NOW in your twenties, thirties, and forties equates to winding up at 55 with a whole lot of experience and not necessarily a whole lot to show for it.

So, what does a self-imposed business major do with all of this in an environment where I'm physically commitment-bound to this space, but need something to do with all of my experience, talent, and Neurospicy-adjacent brain?

You start an IP (intellectual property) Design firm.

And tie all your various projects, interests, experience, and ideas together, and try to turn an actual profit from some of them.

I feel like Julia Roberts in Hector Elizondo's office with the crumpled-up money handoff, saying, "What do you want me to do with all of this? Because I have all of this and I need a dress... for dinner... tonight..."

Well, I don't need a dress, but I do need a paycheck to live the way I prefer, and, Wonderfuls, I have had it up to my eye teeth with lousy bosses.

So, as I deal with a plethora of prior obligations, in an effort to be a boon rather than a burden, I started my own business.

Because why wouldn't I?

I'm not really cut out to be someone's employee anymore. I don't like someone else making my schedule – or really following any schedule anymore. I don't like getting dressed beyond jeans, t-shirts, and sneakers anymore. I am a big ole homebody that has made my personal environment so comfortable that I'm loath to leave it. And last but not least, I have too much experience and common sense, born of thirty years of working, so I don't tolerate other people's bullshit anymore. Especially business bullshit and the toll it takes on me as your employee.

I don't want to 'test out this theory' because Emily is younger and thinks they know better. Sunshine, for all your marketing spin on your ‘solution,’ you don't. College didn’t teach you everything, I promise you. Emily is wasting company resources and (all of our) time, and I am not above letting her know it anymore.

My bite-your-tongue days are long behind me (if they ever really existed).

So now, I'm the CEO.

And I’m working on some business things. And still doing school. And still caring for a mother who becomes increasingly unlike herself in a location I didn’t choose, tending to things that predate my arrival.

It’s life. And I’m grateful to have it.

I thank the Universe for going as easy on me as it’s able without stunting my growth.

Until next time, Wonderfuls: Be safe. Have fun.
